When it comes to fashion styling, many teens have a handle on it and they know what they like. Some of them also knows what looks good on them and how to assemble their own individual look and style.

Then there are some other teens who may need help in developing their style. It may not be because they don’t know anything about style or fashion, but it could be that their sense of fashion styling may need a little tweaking.

Teenagers are also sometimes prone to being awkward in their dressing style. Sometimes they may need a little guidance and direction in choosing appropriate clothing, colors and styles.

So what can you do to help guide them along?

- Offer your input and guidance at appropriate times. If your teenager is about to walk out of the house to hang out with their friends and they are dressed too provocatively, speak up. Make it as gentle as possible, but let them know that what they are wearing may not fit in with the place or event they’re attending.

- Offer to help them with their styles when they DON’T need it. In other words, go shopping and looking for clothes without having a reason. This way, you can help guide them in a more relaxed, non-threatening fashion than if you try to do this when they’re in a hurry.

- Let them help YOU dress in fashion and style. You would be surprised to see that teenagers are often more receptive of suggestions when they see that you are receptive as well.

Although teenagers can often be emotional, they can also be rational in many situations. Fashion choices are often a touchy area for most of them, and it’s wise to tread lightly here. Keep communications light and open with your teenager, and all will should turn out well.
